The Month of March closed with yet another milestone for Ugandan Hiphop. For the last one year, we have been hearing about the creation of a collaborative album organized by Bryan Sabiiti McKenzie. McKenzie is a notable name in the Ugandan Music Industry, having been a radio personality since we first heard of “Hot 100” which was probably the first radio station to actually take keen interest in Ugandan Hip hop.
He is talked about by many as one who gave hip hop a chance to go further on to the radio listener.
He didn’t only stop there, he also actually recorded a few tracks until he decided an early retirement to concentrate on radio. Lately the radio gig just doesn’t seem to be enough for Mackenzie, and we can only be excited about that.
He got 3 super producers, Baru, Samurae, Aethan, and the best of rappers/singers together on the collaborative album, titled; “RudeBoy Music”.The release party hosted by Radio City’s Deedan,at Gatto Matto was indeed one we shall have in the books.
The event featured a host of the top rappers in the country, Navio, Keko, Mith, Enygma, Mun G, Atlas Da African, Nelly-sade, and collaborative acts like Lillian Mbabazi, Apass, Maro and Salvador who absolutely brought the house down! Performances off the album and from the artistes’ solo projects created an experience that we now refer to as LIT! Hustler’s Night, Njogereza, Eh Mama, Crazy, Ndakwikundira were some of the most memorable performances of the night. We also saw perfomances from the likes of Flex D’ Paper, Agee, Tucker HD which gave us a glimpse of who to look out for in the very near future of hip hop. The only disappointment of the night was that the event had to end. Which begs the question, will there be a #RudeBoyMusic2?
