Applications for The 7th Bayimba Hip-Hop Boot Camp Now Open.

As hip-hop in Uganda there are few activities and events that we can look forward to every year on our calendars  and of one them is Bayimba’s Hip-Hop Boot Camp. Every year Bayimba and its partners give opportunity to young rappers through the Hip-Hop boot camp  platform to learn various vital industry skills from different industry practitioners. In case you’re reading about The Hip Hop Boot Camp for the first time, the boot camp is an intensive two-week residential training aimed at conveying music industry skills to talented emerging hip hop artists across the Uganda.

Ever since its inception Bayimba Foundation has organized a range of workshops that aim at introducing artists to new arts disciplines, developing their artistic skills and promoting original art productions. Bayimba Academy with support from Africalia is organizing the 7th Hip Hop Boot Camp, an intensive two-week residential workshop aimed at conveying music industry skills to talented emerging rappers (hip hop artists) who have the potential to breakthrough and become successful in the music sector. This training was started to provide first hand skills training and create opportunities for recording, performances and employment for youths or young rappers in Uganda.

The training is scheduled to take place from 18th – 31st July at Lunkulu Island in Mukono, Uganda. The sessions will be delivered by a variety of facilitators offering a varied programme in various aspects of the music business. The training will focus on Songwriting Creative Process, Music Management, Body Percussion, Live Performance & Studio Preps, Financial Literacy, Profile Writing, Impact of Internet & Social Media on Performance Art, Album Recording Sessions, Embrace & Create Performance Platforms, Rap Ciphers, Personal Development, a lecture on the Hip Hop Elements and UG Hip Hop Awards.  The camp will be a place for meeting, networking and learning from each other. The expected output of the training will be a 10 track audio album by the participants.

The training targets 15 (rappers) between ages of 15 to 25 years. The participants must be practicing and active hip hop artists within their community(ies) with either 2 recorded Mp3 Songs or stage performance videos to supplement their application. Female Hip Hop artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Selected participants are expected to attend the full 2 week sessions consecutively. Local transport costs, meals and accommodation will be covered by the training. Anything else not covered by the training will have to be covered by participants themselves.

 Interested participants are required to submit the following information before 30th June 2019 to sylvester@bayimba.org:

  1. A completed entry form (download from the here)
  2. A profile/short biography (max. 800 words) with 2 recent pictures that will be used for publicity,
  3. A motivation statement for your participation in the training (max. 500 words),
  4. Sample of your work (2 MP3 songs)

Bayimba will confirm receipt of your entry form. A professional team will assess the submissions received and decide which individuals will participate in the 2019 Hip hop Boot camp.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Interested participants are required to submit the following information along with entry form before 30th June 2019 to sylvester@bayimba.org

  1. A profile/short biography (max. 800 words) with 2 recent pictures that will be used for publicity,
  2. A motivation for your participation in the training (max. 500 words),
  3. Sample of your work (2 MP3 songs)
  4. For participants under 20 years old, a parents’ permission letter to participate in the training.

  1. Too bad you set a participation agelimit…you gonna lose out on most of real hip hop talent as older guys above 35 are more actively involved in hip hop than the younger 25 and below years generation you seek.
